Film: Everything I Can See From Here

Everything I Can See From Here from The Line on Vimeo.

New East London studio 'The Line' have released their latest project 'Everything I Can See From Here' directed by Sam Taylor and Bjorn Aschim. I cleaned up one shot and animated the final scene. I'm very proud of everyone involved and really grateful for being a part of something great.

EICSFH Animation Thumbnails

So I helped out on an animated short film a few months ago by doing some clean-up and rough animation. Definitely one of the coolest projects I've been involved with. The film is called 'Everything I Can See From Here' and it's co-directed by Sam Taylor and Bjorn-Erik Aschim.

This is a rough thumbnail sketch I did to prepare for one of my scenes I was animating.

I never really used to draw thumbnails before animating a scene until Bjorn suggested the idea, and now its something I always do whenever I want to study a movement from a video reference. I think it helps me to understand subtleties better when I quickly sketch out the sequence like this.

Frog

This is an old ceramic painting I did in Japan when I was 14. I did a few of these, but this was my favourite one.

Old Boy

God Damnnnn!! It's finally done; I think I spent way too much time on this one but I'm quite happy with it. It's a digital painting of one of the later scenes in 'Old Boy'. If you're new to Korean cinema, this film is a good place to start.

This is my first attempt at doing multiple people in one scene. I also went for a more airbrushed look this time. With these movie stills I've been trying to challenge myself by not colour picking from the original image or tracing anything.

Here's a little screenshot to show how I work:

Fight Club

"...You are not your f***ing khaki's"

Another colour study from a film I think everyone should watch at some point in their lives. Brad Pitt's best role in my opinion.

The most difficult part of this painting was the eyes because they were both slightly obscured by shadow and I had to suggest them rather than show them.

Infernal Affairs

This is a rough colour study of a scene from "Infernal Affairs", one of my favourite Hong Kong films. I'm trying to get used to painting with colour now. So far it feels really difficult... It's a lot harder to get the values right. I'll probably do more of these.
